b) Características generales
La subregión del Chaco está ubicada en el sur del departamento de Santa Cruz, y comprende además a las tierras bajas de Tarija y Chuquisaca. Contiene a la totalidad de los territorios del pueblo Guaraní, y los territorios de los pueblos Tapieté y Weenhayek. Actualmente son 17 TIOC los titulados, nueve de los cuales están en el departamento de Santa Cruz, cinco en Chuquisaca y tres en Tarija.
La subregión del Chaco se caracteriza principalmente porque las comunidades indígenas coexisten de manera cercana con poblaciones de distinta naturaleza, como ganaderos, campesinos e incluso menonitas en algunas zonas.
Varias de las medianas y grandes propiedades de la subregión han sido revertidas por el INRA por emplear trabajadores guaraníes en condiciones de servidumbre.
c) Titulares de los TIOC
Los guaraníes están afiliados a la CIDOB. Su organización matriz es la Asamblea del Pueblo Guaraní (APG) que agrupa a 28 capitanías guaraní y una tapieté. Asimismo, los weenhayek tienen su propia organización afiliada directamente a la CIDOB.
Los 17 TIOC titulados abarcan 1.4 millones de hectáreas (7% del total de la superficie de TIOC titulados) y tienen 50,280 personas.
d) Los TIOC de mayor y menor extensión
El más extenso es el territorio Guaraní del Isoso con 554 mil hectáreas y el menor es Takovo Mora con un poco más de cuatro mil hectáreas.
